Dunecraft Discussion Thread!
« on: June 16, 2011, 11:49:05 pm »
Thought we could use a general thread for discussing all things DuneCraft, from posting pictures to sharing construction/modding ideas.  New people can also be directed to this thread to get a feel for the server. ;D

List of buildings so far: (MORE SCREENSHOTS TO COME.  My intention is to post pictures of the in-game art to compare it to the structures we've built)

House Atreides
  • Palace (under construction)

  • Harvester (Dune 2)

House Harkonnen
  • Starport (Dune 2)

  • Combat Tank (Dune 2)
  • Fortress (Dune 1)

House Ordos
  • NONE CURRENTLY (?)

House Corrino
  • WOR Heavy Trooper Facility (Dune 2)

  • Windtrap (Dune 2)

  • Refinery (Dune 2)

  • Outpost (Dune 2)

  • Cartography Station

Fremen
  • Sietch (Dune 1 style)

Miscellaneous
  • Giant Thumper
  • Sandworm!

  • Drackbolt's Sandcastle & Skyway Nexus
  • Desert Complex (by player Gusstuff - under construction)
  • Underground Rail Network (under construction - links to several buildings)

Random ideas for Discussion (JUST IDEAS, most of which aren't possible without Notch's modding API):
Nether = new textures?  Could be either space-travel themed or simply another planet.  Hell, it could almost pass already as Giedi Prime.

Armor = stillsuit function.  This is a change that would likely be contingent on the mod API coming out.  Walking in the open sun without wearing a stillsuit/armor could cause minor damage over time.  Drilling down:  Leather armor could act as a stillsuit (making leather armor actually USEFUL), whereas steel/gold/diamond armor could serve as combat shields.

Bow & Arrow -> Naturally Lasguns, or some other kind of gun?  Swords could obviously remain, but can't forget about Crysknives!  Again, dependent on a modding API.

Someone had the idea of Creepers as Saboteurs.  Other ideas:  Zombies -> Smugglers or generic raiders?  Skeletons -> Smugglers/raiders, except with ranged weapon

Passive mobs (Pigs, etc.) -> No idea.

Currently we have snow biomes, which makes sense as Arrakis does have its Polar Region, but with some texture pack changes snow could be spice, and units of spice (i.e. "snowballs") could be harvested as a commodity.  Perhaps not the best idea, but the point is to think of ways to have spice as an actual commodity, like gold.

Another Idea,
We should add a economy mod to the server like Iconomy. So we can buy and sell resources and making it easier build large structures.

Creeper Saboteurs

I liked the idea of creepers being Saboteurs so much that I make a mod for it.

After Explosion:

Download link:
http://www.mediafire.com/?567dw7ui7b966p0

You install it like a normal mod.
1. Extract the SaboteursMod.zip file
2. Open your minecraft.jar file with a program like 7-zip or winrar
3. delete the META-INF folder in the jar file
4. Drag and drop the mobs folder, fz.class and ii.class files into the .jar
5. Close the minecraft.jar and start Minecraft
6. Play minecraft!

The mod works in both single player and multi player and doesn't need to be installed on the server for it to work.

I'm not very good at making skins so I used drackbolts stillsuit skin. (hope he doesn't mind) You can make your own skin for the creeper, if you want. All you have to do is replace the Saboteurs.png in the minecraft.jar mobs folder with your skin. (note: the file name is case sensitive.) Please post the skin here if you do make one.

If you have and problems just reply to here. Also if you have any ideas for mods or new skins for other mobs post them here as well.

Nice mod.  Maybe someone can whip up an authentic Dune2 saboteur skin to go with it ;)

Updated the OP with some pics.

I haven't really make any plugins for bukkit before but I will give it a go. Do you have any ideas for a plugin/mod.

Drackbolt you should have a go at making a skin for the "Saboteurs". You are really good at making skins.

Going to start making a sand worm mod. It will either no clip through sand or it will be a water mob, which will look cool with drackbolts texture pack. It will look like a big rectangle thought because you can't make circles in minecraft.

After I get it working in single player I will start making it work with multi player and add spice, worm teeth and crysknifes. (when I start making it work with multi player I will need to know the version of the server)

Because I'm not very good at making skins I will post a template of the skin of the worm so someone can make a good skin.

I will post here with updates and downloads.

Great, Brohoster might go down...  Well I'm making a backup right now.  I guess we'll see what happens.  :-\

I'll take a shot at the saboteur skin at some point.  Keep in mind there isn't much to go on aside from a few grainy pics in Dune 2, so I'm not sure yet exactly what it will look like. :)

Plugins for Bukkit are just .jar files I can drop onto my server.  If you can get your things into that format, I might use them.  I'd love to see crys knives.  I also think the idea of making snow into something more like Spice would be very cool (though I'm not sure any kind of economy mod is really necessary).

I know and I will have a go.

It would make things easy when building really big things. All you would have to do is sell what don't need and buy what you do. (then I wouldn't have to dig up all the dirt around my house)

You can change the name of items easily. (It works with multi player)

The mod (well I wouldn't really call it a mob but....) changes the name of snowballs and snow to spice. So when your mouse hovers over them in your inventory it says they're spice not snow.

You install it like a normal mod.
1. Extract the SpiceNameChange.zip.zip file
2. Open your minecraft.jar file with a program like 7-zip or winrar
3. delete the META-INF folder in the jar file
4. Drag and drop the lang folder into the .jar
5. Close the minecraft.jar and start Minecraft
6. Play minecraft!

I'd like to use that, but I only use Bukkit mods right now.  We'll see when 1.7 comes out what else is in store...

If your talking about changing the name of snowballs and snow you install it to your single player not to a server.

I have started making the sandworm mod.

The mod at the moment is not finished but I will let you download and see what you think. The model of the sand worm is just a rectangle at the moment and the texture is just there for looks. The mod needs ModLoader to work and it will work with most other mods.

You can get ModLoader here:
http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/75440-v166-risugamis-mods-updates/

Install ModLoader first Instructions are on the download page.

You install it like a normal mod.
1. Extract the Worm.zip file
2. Open your minecraft.jar file with a program like 7-zip or winrar
3. delete the META-INF folder in the jar file
4. Drag and drop the everything into the .jar
5. Close the minecraft.jar and start Minecraft
6. Play minecraft!

(the mod is attached to this post)

I am working on a new model for the sandworm mod but if you want to give it a go you can use FMCmodeler.

You can find it here:
http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/247851-modeler-fmcmodeler-v026-minecraft-models-in-a-flash/page__hl__modeler

Just post the parsed code here and I will have a look at it.
